Arctangent

Introducing ‘Arctangent’, a contemporary kinetic garden sculpture that moves with the natural forces of the wind. Arctangent utilises precision engineered bearings and weights to carefully balance the piece, allowing each element to flicker and dance in the wind. Depending on the weather conditions, Arctangent will often present different sides of its personality.

From bright sunny days and calm wind days, to overcast and strong, gusty days, each condition will highlight and reveal different aspects of this contemporary moving sculpture, forever interfacing authentically with its surrounding environment and the elements. During calm or overcast conditions, the sculpture reveals a more flowing, contemplative character. In strong, gusty winds, ‘Arctangent’ comes alive with whirling motion, showcasing the unseen energy of the environment. This constant transformation invites viewers to engage with the piece repeatedly, discovering new facets and emotions each time.
Standing at 3.5 meters high and 4.6 meters wide, this dynamic piece has been masterfully engineered to achieve a delicate balance, allowing each element to move gracefully in response to even the gentlest breeze. Because it is crafted from durable materials like stainless steel, ‘Arctangent’ is designed to withstand various weather conditions, ensuring longevity and minimal maintenance.
